Warangal: The faculty of Warangal’s SR University, Dr. Neelima Gurrapu as part of her research work, has developed an AI-powered framework capable of detecting fake news, misinformation and rumours on social media.
Her Ph.D. thesis, titled ‘A Hybrid Machine Learning and Deep Learning Framework for Multimodal Rumour Detection on Social Media,’ proposes an innovative Artificial Intelligence-based framework for automatically detecting fake news and rumours on social media by analyzing text, images, and related information together using multimodal data.
Her research makes a significant contribution to the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Social Media Analytics. Dr. Neelima, a resident of Kashibugga in Warangal has been awarded Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science and Engineering by the National Institute of Technology Nagaland (NIT Nagaland).
The proposed model combines Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Computer Vision techniques to improve the accuracy of rumour detection. The research aims to reduce the spread of misinformation on online platforms and support the creation of safer and trustworthy digital communication environments.
The work has significant applications in social media monitoring, cybersecurity, digital journalism, fact-checking and online content verification. Dr. Neelima completed her doctoral research under the guidance of Dr. Nagaraju Baydeti, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, NIT Nagaland, according to a release from SR University.
