Khammam: Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt stated that driving tractors fitted with cage wheels on public roads was a legal offence and that strict action would be taken against violators.
He noted that the government spends significant funds to construct quality roads reaching even remote villages. Therefore, it was everyone’s responsibility to protect them and prevent damage.
Fitting cage wheels to tractors for agricultural work was common practice. However, the cage wheels must be removed and replaced with standard tyres once the work in the fields was completed, or alternative methods must be used to avoid damaging the roads, the CP said.
Acting on a complaint filed by Roads and Buildings (R&B) department officials regarding tractors being driven with cage wheels in violation of regulations on the R&B road between Kakarlapalli and Rudrakshapalli, on the outskirts of Kakarlapalli village in Sathupalli mandal, the police registered cases against the drivers and owners, Sara Krishna, Pammi Krishnaiah, Gutti Muthyala Rao and Bosi Korraju, at Sathupalli police station and seized the tractors.
Sunil Dutt stated that protecting the lives and property of the public was the primary objective of the police department and urged farmers and tractor owners to cooperate by adhering to the regulations.
He appealed to the public to dial 100 or inform the nearest police station if they noticed anyone violating the restrictions or encountered any emergency situation. Similarly, police officials were instructed to create awareness among tractor drivers and owners at the field level.
