Hyderabad:  Several Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders who were on their way to Shabad in Rangareddy district to meet the families of the six murder victims and extend support to the ongoing protest demanding justice, were detained by the police on Saturday.

Former Kodangal MLA Patnam Narendra Reddy, along with BRS leader R.S. Praveen Kumar and several other party functionaries, was stopped by the police at Shabad crossroads in Chevella. They were taken into preventive custody and shifted to the Shankarpally Police Station.

In a separate incident, former ministers P. Sabitha Indra Reddy and Satyavathi Rathod, along with former Medak MLA Padma Devender Reddy, were intercepted by the police at Malkapur Gate in Chevella while proceeding to Shabad. The leaders were taken into preventive custody and shifted to the Moinabad Police Station.

Tension prevailed at the spot as BRS leaders and police personnel engaged in a heated argument, which briefly led to jostling between the two sides.

Meanwhile, a large number of BRS workers from various mandals in the Chevella Assembly constituency gathered at the spot where the leaders were stopped in their support, leading to a tense situation in the area.

Police deployed heavy security at both locations to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain law and order. The detained leaders had planned to visit the bereaved families and offer condolences to the victims while supporting the agitation seeking justice in the Shabad six-murder case.
