Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Economic Offences Wing (EOW) officials have booked a cheating case against film director G Ashok Babu following allegations that he collected Rs. 3.5 crore from a family after promising to launch their son as a hero in Telugu films.
According to the complaint lodged by Hanumantha Rao, the director allegedly received the money in multiple instalments from him and his family, assuring them that their son would be introduced as a lead actor. “Neither was the promised film made nor was the money returned despite repeated requests, prompting the family to approach the police,” an official said.
Based on the complaint, the EOW registered a case and is investigating. The police have summoned the director for questioning and are examining the financial transactions and the circumstances under which the money was allegedly collected.
Gudluri Ashok Babu is known for directing Telugu films such as Pilla Zamindar and Bhagamathi. The investigation is on.
