Hyderabad: The police conducted a massive pre-dawn search operation at Mangal Basti and surrounding areas on Wednesday night.
The operation was carried out under the direct supervision of Additional Joint Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal. A total of 38 special police teams, comprising nearly 1,100 police personnel, participated in the coordinated searches.
The operation was conducted based on specific intelligence that illegal cough syrups were being secretly sold from residential houses, allegedly luring local youth into drug addiction.
During the searches, police seized a substantial quantity of ganja, illegally stored liquor, banned Nitravet tablets, and illegal cough syrup bottles suspected to be used as intoxicants. The seized contraband has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
Apart from the narcotics crackdown, police also verified the presence of habitual and history-sheet offenders believed to be taking shelter in the locality. Several persons who had been evading arrest for a long time were identified and taken into custody during the operation.
Police also seized several suspicious vehicles that lacked valid ownership or registration documents.
