CITU leaders take candle light rally to mark one year of Sigachi blast

Sangareddy: CITU leaders took out a candlelight rally at BPL Junction in the Pashamylaram industrial area on Tuesday to mark the first anniversary of the blast at Sigachi Industries Limited. Speaking on the occasion, CITU leader Athimela Manik said the Sigachi management was trying to evade the payment of the Rs one crore compensation promised to the families of each of the 54 workers who died in the mishap.

Even though the Sigachi management had written a letter to the National Stock Exchange assuring that it would pay Rs one crore as ex gratia to the family of each deceased worker, he said the management was now going back on its promise. Manik said the victims’ families were going from pillar to post to get compensation, while the Congress government and officials had refrained from taking any action against Sigachi. The CITU leaders demanded that the government force the management to release the pending compensation besides bearing the treatment expenses of the injured.
