Hyderabad: Indian boys delivered a dominant performance on the third day of the Under-15 Asian Wrestling Championships, winning four gold medals as the country secured a total of eight medals in the men’s freestyle competition here on Monday.
Prathamesh S. Patil (52kg), Naitik (62kg), Keshav Harshad Chemte (75kg) and Vivek Chauhan (85kg) won gold medals in their respective weight categories to headline a stellar day for the Indian contingent. Apart from the four gold medals, India also secured one silver and three bronze medals to complete a 100 per cent podium finish across all eight weight divisions contested on the day.
In the finals, Patil registered a commanding 10-0 win by technical superiority over Japan’s Daichi Matsumi, while Chauhan delivered a clinical performance to blank another Japanese wrestler, Taisei Suzuki, 5-0. Naitik edged past Uzbekistan’s Ismoiljon Nazirjonov 8-6 in a closely fought contest, while Chemte held his nerve in a high-scoring thriller to defeat Kazakhstan’s Yersultan Suleiman 11-10.
Meanwhile, Nitesh (57kg) settled for a silver medal after going down 2-10 to Japan’s Aiseb Gharehdaghi in the final.
India also swept all three bronze-medal playoff bouts. Gautam (41kg) pinned Hong Kong’s Shu Yan Sung for an 8-0 win by fall, Vansh Ahlawat (44kg) registered a dominant 12-4 victory over Tajikistan’s Yoqub Dilshod Dilshodzoda, and Arman (68kg) blanked Turkmenistan’s Idris Melejayev 10-0 via technical superiority.
