Hindustani Gau Raksha Samiti demands ban on cow slaughter

Hyderabad: The members of Hindustani Gau Raksha Samiti (HGRS), an organisation comprising Hindu and Muslim religious leaders, intellectuals, and advocates of communal harmony, demanded that the Central Government implement a nationwide, legally binding ban on cow slaughter and designate the cow as the National Animal.

The newly elected president of HGRS, Vijayaviharam Ramana Murthy, while interacting with media persons in Hyderabad on Monday, questioned the union Government as to why it has not yet introduced a constitutional amendment if it is sincere about cow protection.

The narrative propagated by communal elements that only Muslims are responsible for cow slaughter is a blatant lie. The government must answer as to why beef exports are highest in states currently governed by the BJP, he demanded.

Executive president, HGRS, Mir Inayat Ali Baqri demanded the immediate closure of all beef-exporting companies across the country and called for comprehensive protection for all bovines, including oxen and calves.

General Secretary, HGRS, Maulana Hakim Sufi Syed Shah, urged the Centre to provide dedicated land and facilities in every town and village for proper funeral rites of deceased cows.

Welcoming the formation of HGRS, Honorary Advisor Rounaq Yar Khan said that such an organisation is a positive step towards fostering harmony, strengthening unity, and ensuring the protection of the cow.

Vice President, Maulana Dr Syed Asif Umri, Honorary advisor and Sikh representative, Manpreet Singh, Vice-president, Vijaya Shankaraswamy, David Paul (Christian Representative), and other newly elected representatives of the Hindustani Gau Raksha Samiti were present.
