Hyderabad: This year, the city’s renowned 69-foot Khairatabad Ganesh idol will bestow blessings upon devotees in the theme of ‘Panchamukha Sankatahara Maha Ganapati’.
The Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee on Thursday released the theme for the idol at the pandal after performing Karra Puja, a key ritual that marks the start of preparations to build the tallest eco-friendly Ganesh idol.
The committee selected ‘Panchamukha Sankatahara Maha Ganapati’ as the theme this year, sculptor Chinnaswamy Rajendran told ‘Telangana Today’. He said 15 feet Somnath Jyothirlinga will be on the right side of the idol and Kalika Mata on the other side.
With the Ganesh Chaturthi festival to be celebrated on September 14, the committee commenced building the idol three months ahead. Karra Puja is traditionally performed to commence the works on the idol over the decades, said Chairman of the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee, Saingari Raj Kumar.
Material such as clay, steel, dry grass, rice husk, and wood for scaffolding of the inner core of the idol have been acquired from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu with sculptor Chinnaswamy Rajendran, who has been associated with the idol for the past four decades, overseeing the work.
Over 100 skilled workers will be involved in crafting the gigantic Ganesh idol to complete the work three days ahead of the Ganesh festival, said Rajendran.
