Hyderabad: In a step towards a green environment, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is set to introduce 37 newly procured electric buses on five additional routes across the city.

The new services are being planned on the Sanathnagar-Shankarpally, Mehdipatnam-Pragathi Nagar, Jagadgirigutta-Secunderabad, Secunderabad-Miyapur ‘X’ Road, and Patancheru-Secunderabad Railway Station corridors.

RTC authorities said these routes were selected based on passenger demand and commuter traffic. The addition of these buses on the five new routes is expected to further improve connectivity for thousands of daily passengers.

Officials said the induction of the new buses will further strengthen the corporation’s growing electric fleet and provide passengers with a cleaner, quieter, and more comfortable travel experience. The move is also expected to help reduce fuel consumption and vehicular emissions in the city.

Meanwhile, though the buses have already arrived, their deployment is likely to be phased as specially trained drivers are assigned to the services. Drivers are being put through medical examinations, driving assessments, and route familiarisation exercises before the buses are rolled out.
