Adilabad: Rains coupled with gusty winds damaged houses in several parts of Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Mancherial districts on Monday.
Houses collapsed in different villages of Penchikalet and Nennal mandals, while trees were uprooted by strong gales, affecting traffic in rural areas. Electric poles tilted, disrupting power supply. People from rural areas claimed that the rains damaged houses by blowing off tin roofs. They urged the government to provide compensation for the loss of shelter due to the rains.
Farmers, however, expressed happiness over the rains. They said that the rains would breathe life into cotton seeds that were yet to germinate due to scanty rainfall. The rains brought relief to the public from scorching heatwave conditions. Talamadugu mandal recorded the highest maximum temperature of 42.9 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
