Hyderabad: BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao paid rich tributes to Telangana ideologue Prof Kothapalli Jayashankar on his death anniversary on Sunday, recalling his pivotal role in shaping the Telangana statehood movement. He termed the scholar-activist a selfless intellectual and visionary who dedicated his life to advancing Telangana’s identity and aspirations.
In a statement, Chandrashekhar Rao stated that the professor served as an ideological mentor and guiding force at critical junctures during the final phase of the Telangana movement. He recalled that Prof Jayashankar extended unconditional support to the constitutional and democratic path adopted for achieving statehood.
The former Chief Minister said the decade-long BRS government worked to fulfil the aspirations and ideals championed by Prof Jayashankar through welfare and development initiatives across all communities. Reaffirming the party’s commitment to protecting Telangana’s interests, he said the BRS would continue to uphold the Telangana ideologue’s vision of safeguarding the State’s distinct political and social identity.
Chandrashekhar Rao opined that Prof Jayashankar’s ideals have been sidelined during the two-and-a-half years of the Congress government. He stressed the need to preserve Telangana’s identity and interests which were now under threat. He reiterated that the BRS was committed to protecting Telangana’s interests regardless of the sacrifices required.
He called on every citizen of Telangana to remain vigilant and embrace the spirit of the Telangana movement. “Protecting Telangana’s dignity and its socio-political identity is the greatest tribute we can pay to Prof Jayashankar,” he declared.
