Dr M Venugopala Chary, a music teacher at AECS-2 Hyderabad, won a gold medal in the Carnatic classical vocal category at the Department of Atomic Energy’s cultural meet. The Kumram Bheem Asifabad native has also guided students to success at national competitions

Asifabad: Dr M Venugopala Chary, a music teacher working with the Atomic Energy Centre School (AECS)-2, Hyderabad, is bringing recognition to the institution by winning awards at State and national-level competitions.
Venugopala Chary won a gold medal in the Carnatic classical vocal category at the Department of Atomic Energy’s 40th cultural meet held at Kakrapar in Gujarat in January 2026. He received the medal, trophy and certificate of appreciation from the department. He was appreciated by the authorities of the DAE for showing exceptional talent and dedication in preserving and performing a rich tradition.
Hailing from Kagaznagar town in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, the musician was appointed by the DAE at Turamdih in Jharkhand in 2013. He was later transferred to AECS-2, Hyderabad, in 2016. Under his guidance, Mahalaxmi, a Class IX student of the school, bagged the second prize at an All India inter-school competition organised at AECS-Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu in 2025.
Significantly, Venugopala Chary earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Carnatic music (vocal) from Potti Sriramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad, in 2018. He secured a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in the same branch of fine arts in 2012 after pursuing an MA in Carnatic music at the same institution in 2008. He also achieved a gold medal for outstanding academic performance.
