Hyderabad: Commissioner of Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) T Vinay Krishna Reddy visited Keesara and Nagaram after noticing that commuters in several areas faced inconvenience following Thursday’s downpour.
Last night, he also visited the LB Nagar area and found that heavy water stagnated on the LB Nagar stretch, causing waterlogging. He instructed the concerned officials to clear the waterlogging and stormwater drains. The DRF teams of Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (Hydraa) followed the MMC official and cleared the waterlogging.
On Friday, the MMC chief reviewed waterlogging-prone locations, open drains and the connectivity of the stormwater drainage network. Areas likely to overflow from stormwater drains during heavy rains were identified, and the drainage system’s performance was assessed. The Commissioner then instructed the concerned officials to immediately clear accumulated silt and garbage from drains and stormwater channels and to begin desilting work.
“Make sure that the drainage water flows freely without hurdles whenever a heavy downpour is reported in this monsoon.”
The Commissioner also emphasised taking preventive measures in advance so that the general public would not face inconvenience, and said officials remained geared up to handle monsoon emergencies effectively.
