Hyderabad: Field level workers and administrative staff of Urban Primary Health Care Centres (UPHCs) in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, under National Health Mission (NHM), on Friday protested at the Commissioner of Family Welfare Office, Koti, for not releasing salaries for the month of February 2026.
Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), accountants, pharmacists and Staff Nurses working in various UPHCS in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, who did not receive their salary for February, participated in the protest.
The members of AITUC, who led the protests, said that the district officials cited failure to submit attendance properly as the reason for the non-payment of salaries.
“Withholding one month (February) salary from employees who are already working for low wages is a grave injustice,” AITUC State Deputy General Secretary M. Narasimha said.
Narasimha noted that while nearly 20,000 employees are working under the NHM across the state, salaries were withheld only for contract employees in Medchal district under the pretext of not marking Aadhaar-based attendance.
He pointed out that even though the employees provided signed registers proving that they performed their duties that month, district officials acted negligently and did not release the salaries.
He further criticized the officials, stating that they were fully aware it is not feasible for Second ANMs working in the field to mark biometric attendance, yet they deliberately chose to treat the workers unfairly.
