School managements in Hyderabad have been directed to prioritise student safety and adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards underage driving, substance abuse, cybercrime and unsafe transport practices. Authorities also stressed stronger monitoring, surveillance and parental support to protect schoolchildren.

Hyderabad: School managements across the city have been directed to make student safety their top priority, with authorities advocating a zero-tolerance approach towards underage driving, substance abuse, cybercrime and unsafe transportation practices.
The directions were issued during a high-level meeting on the safety of schoolchildren organised by the Hyderabad Traffic Police and attended by Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, senior officials from the Transport Department, GHMC, School Education Department, district administration and representatives of educational institutions on Friday.
Sajjanar announced strict action against underage driving and said police would directly inform schools whenever students are found violating traffic rules. He expressed concern over incidents involving school bus drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, warning that strict accountability would be enforced.
School managements were instructed to appoint dedicated transport managers, monitor student travel arrangements, prevent overcrowding in school transport vehicles and strengthen surveillance through CCTV coverage and internal vigilance mechanisms.
Sajjanar also noted the growing need to curb tobacco consumption and prevent exposure to drugs among school-going children with the support of parents and teachers.
