Hanamkonda: Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council Chairman Prof. S Mahendra Dev released a book titled ‘A World of Five Zeros’ authored by Prof. B Suresh Lal, Head of the Department of Economics at Kakatiya University, Warangal.
The event took place at India International Centre, New Delhi, on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dev stated that ‘A World of Five Zeros’ presents a visionary yet pragmatic exploration of what it means to create a future without poverty, unemployment, inequality, net carbon emissions and conflict.
The book starts by defining each of these five pillars as essential to human and planetary well-being. It first examines the root causes and systemic barriers to ending poverty and explores zero unemployment by reframing work and purpose. Coming to zero inequality, it examines social, economic and political inclusion.
The book then addresses zero-net-carbon emissions and, finally, discusses zero conflict, proposing frameworks for peace-building, resilience and global cooperation that transcend traditional geopolitical tensions.
Case studies, expert insights and actionable strategies demonstrating how these five goals are interconnected and mutually reinforcing are interwoven throughout the book, author Prof. Suresh Lal noted.
Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi, Prof. Chetan Ghate said the book culminates in a call for collective action, urging readers to participate in shaping a world where these zeros are not just ideals but lived realities, ultimately fostering a sustainable and just future for all.
Author and columnist Prof. Ashwani Mahajan, Indian Economic Association president Prof. Arun Diwakar Nath Bajpai, its general secretary Prof. Ravindra Bharme and others participated in the event and congratulated the author, Suresh Lal.
