Indiscriminate burning of paddy stubble in Siddipet district led to massive damage to oil palm orchards, with four acres belonging to Jivan Reddy gutted in Markook mandal.

Siddipet: The indiscriminate burning of paddy stubble residue caused irreparable damage to oil palm farmers in the district as fire gutted the oil palm orchards in Markook mandal headquarters. Four acres of oil palm crop of a farmer Jeevan Reddy was gutted as neighbouring farmers burnt paddy residue on Saturday night.
The farmer said that he had suffered at least Rs 15 lakh loss due to the incident. In a similar incident, the oil palm crop of Challa Ravindar Reddy was gutted as fire spread into his field at Thimmaipally in Nanganur mandal on Sunday. Police registered cases and the probe is underway.
