Hyderabad: After drawing flak over death of four persons due to electrocution in different cases, the TGSPDCL has swung into action and initiated special measures to strengthen the power distribution system across all its operation centers.
It has also accelerated preparedness activities to ensure uninterrupted power supply even during heavy rains and strong winds.
TGSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Jitesh V. Patil, field officials have intensified restoration works of damaged and dilapidated electrical poles. A special drive for maintenance of electrical poles and power lines is being carried out across the TGSPDCL network, a press note said.
As part of the special drive, TGSPDCL is undertaking installation of new electrical poles, rectification of loose lines, and repair and restoration of bent and damaged poles on a priority basis.
To enhance the safety of power lines, a large-scale tree trimming programme is being undertaken. The initiative aims to prevent accidents and power interruptions caused by tree branches falling on electrical lines during heavy rains and strong winds.
For effective implementation of these activities, TGSPDCL has procured and mobilized modern equipment. A total of 208 pole pruners will be available, including 168 newly procured units and 40 existing units. In addition, 59 new chain saws have been procured, and 530 pruning cutters have been made available for field operations, officials claimed.
To ensure quick restoration of power supply and address emergency situations, 189 Emergency Response Team (ERT) vehicles have been kept ready. Further, 213 Fuse-Off-Call (FOC) teams have also been deployed in the Core Urban Region (CURE) to attend power-related complaints promptly.
TGSPDCL is conducting a planned tree-trimming drive to ensure electrical safety and uninterrupted power supply. Before undertaking tree trimming activities near power lines, local electricity officials will inform residents in advance. The department has requested the public to extend their cooperation.
For consumer grievance redressal, the 1912 toll-free electricity helpline is available round the clock. The call center has the capacity to attend up to 400 calls simultaneously. Consumers can also register complaints through the TGSPDCL Citizen App and the TGSPDCL WhatsApp number 87124 41912. All consumer service platforms function round the clock.
TGSPDCL has appealed to the public to exercise caution during the monsoon season. In the event of snapped power lines or fallen electrical cables, citizens have been advised not to touch them under any circumstances and to immediately inform the Electricity Department or contact the 1912 helpline.
