Hyderabad: The Dr YSR & Dr KVP Foundation has established a revolving fund to grant an annual cash prize to a high-performing agricultural science student in Hyderabad.
The Dr YSR & Dr KVP Foundation has established a perpetual revolving fund at Prof Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTSAU) to support students in the agricultural sector. The public charitable trust donated Rs 21 lakh to fund an annual cash award of Rs 1 lakh for a high-achieving student pursuing a degree in Agricultural Sciences on the Rajendranagar campus.
Former Member of Parliament Vundavalli Arun Kumar presented the donation on behalf of the foundation to Vice-Chancellor Prof Aldas Janaiah. The ceremony took place during the university’s 62nd Foundation Day celebrations on June 12, 2026. The event coincided with a national seminar focused on the history of the Green Revolution and its impact on Indian agricultural research.
Several prominent personalities attended the handover, including Justice B Sudershan Reddy, a retired judge of the Supreme Court of India, and Prof Madhura Swaminathan from the Indian Statistical Institute. The Telangana government was represented by Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and M Kodanda Reddy, chairman of the Telangana State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission.
The foundation was established by Dr K V P Ramachandra Rao to continue the work of his late associate, Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. Foundation representatives stated that the initiative is designed to encourage academic excellence in a field that was central to the late leader’s policy agenda. During his tenure, Dr Rajasekhara Reddy focused on farmer welfare and rural development, making support for agricultural education a key objective of the trust.
The cash prize will be awarded annually to one academically meritorious student. This endowment ensures that the award will continue indefinitely, funded by the interest generated from the initial capital investment. By supporting students at PJTSAU, the foundation aims to strengthen the next generation of researchers and experts in Telangana’s agricultural sector.
