Hyderabad: Hydraa’s Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams have been instructed to handle issues linked to urban flooding, with a focus on preparedness measures aimed at addressing flood-related problems in urban areas during the monsoon.
A press release issued on Friday said Hydraa Commissioner AV Ranganath, during an interaction with DRF teams at Budha Bhavan, directed the teams to ensure that the city does not once again experience the intense flooding witnessed during the recent rains.
He said that 913 flood-prone spots have been mapped within the limits of the three commissionerates, with 257 of them marked as major areas of concern. DRF teams were instructed to remain ready at these locations. In addition to the existing 51 DRF teams, MET and static teams will also be deployed soon, he added.
Ranganath suggested forming local committees in critical waterlogging zones and encouraging residents to help identify workable solutions. He also directed officials to put clear markings on nearby walls indicating the locations of manholes.
The release noted that even a single day of traffic disruption in the city could lead to losses of up to Rs 400 crore.
