Hyderabad: The Southwest Monsoon is literally at the doorstep of Telangana, setting the stage for an official entry into southern districts including Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal and Nagarkurnool districts, in the next 48 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), New Delhi, in its bulletin on Sunday said the monsoons have advanced to Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, and the system right now is poised to enter the southern border of Telangana.
“Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka, some parts of Telangana in the next 3 to 4 days,” IMD, New Delhi.
Officials indicated that a formal touchdown of the monsoons is expected to be somewhere between June 8 and 11. “If conditions are ideal, the monsoons need just two to three days to cover entire Telangana. However, at present, it could hit Greater Hyderabad somewhere between June 11 and June 12 and eventually cover Telangana between June 15 and June 18,” officials indicated.
However, independent meteorologists and climate experts, who have been actively covering the impact of the El Niño and southwest monsoons, have remained cautious.
After the initial push, there are growing concerns that the advancement of the monsoons could turn highly sluggish after June 15. An underperforming Bay of Bengal branch and a projected transition toward El Niño conditions later in the summer could trigger volatile distribution of rains, they fear.
Meanwhile, the IMD, Hyderabad, in its forecast on Sunday, has indicated extensive pre-monsoon thundershowers in multiple districts.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds are very likely to occur at isolated places in Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.
