A woman and two teenage girls drowned in the River Manjeera at Bholakpally in Kamareddy district on Friday. The victims had come to attend a religious ceremony. Two youngsters were rescued by local residents and expert swimmers during the operation.

Nizamabad: Three persons, including a woman and two teenage girls, drowned in the River Manjeera at Bholakpally in Kamareddy district on Friday, while two others were rescued by local residents.
The deceased were identified as Anitha (40), her daughter Shivani (13), and Pavani (14). According to reports, they were residents of Mangal Kishtapur village in Pitlam mandal and had come to visit their relatives and attend a religious ceremony.
The incident occurred when five persons entered the river for a bath. They reportedly slipped into deeper waters and began drowning. Hearing their cries for help, local residents rushed to the scene and alerted the police.
Expert swimmers were immediately deployed. Following a search operation, the bodies of the woman and the two girls were recovered from the river. Two youngsters, identified as Bhunuprasad and Sushanth, were rescued.
Bhunuprasad was shifted to a hospital for treatment, while Sushanth was rescued by local residents. The bodies of the deceased were later shifted to Banswada Government Hospital for postmortem examination.
