A hauler operator was injured in SCCL’s RK New Tech underground mine at Srirampur in Mancherial district after a drum struck a motor and then hit him. He was hospitalised and is stable. Coal miners later raised concerns over workplace safety.

Mancherial: A hauler operator sustained injuries when a drum hit him while he was discharging duties in an underground mine, RK New Tech of SCCL in Srirampur, on Friday.
SCCL officials said that B Vamshikrishna received multiple injuries to his face when a drum located in the roof of the mine hit the casing of a motor. Subsequently, another drum of the motor struck the operator, resulting in injuries. He was immediately shifted to an SCCL hospital. His condition was stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, coal miners expressed concern over their safety in underground mines. They said that miners and operators of various machines were discharging duties while risking their lives. They urged officials to step up safety at worksites by taking preventive measures. They regretted that accidents had become a routine affair in underground mines.
