Hyderabad: Indian Dental Association (IDA), Deccan commemorated World No Tobacco Day by hosting a Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programme in Hyderabad on Monday. The CDE programme sensitised dental professionals on the critical role they play in the early detection and prevention of oral cancers.

Dr K Rajasekhar Reddy, president, BJP Doctors’ Cell, who was Chief Guest of the CDE programme, said that tobacco consumption begins as a habit and often develops into a lifelong addiction with devastating results. Dentists are uniquely positioned to identify early warning signs, which can save countless lives and reduce the cancer burden.

Dr P Surya Prasanna, president, IDA, Deccan, said that newer forms of tobacco consumption such as vaping devices and flavoured nicotine products are increasingly targeting the younger generation.

Dr A Srikanth, Secretary, IDA (Deccan), concluded the event with a placard display by the IDA Deccan branch highlighting the ill effects of tobacco to mark the WNTD2026. Senior IDA, Deccan office bearers, cancer specialists and onco-surgeons were present.
