Overnight thunderstorms brought relief to Hyderabad and surrounding districts after a month-long heatwave. Widespread showers, gusty winds, and cloud cover cooled conditions. Mahabubnagar recorded the highest rainfall at 112 mm, while Hyderabad areas saw steady moderate rains, easing summer discomfort

Extensive thunderstorms brings much needed respite to people of Hyderabad and districts 

Hyderabad: After experiencing severe heatwave conditions for a month, people in Hyderabad and districts on Wednesday woke-up to cloudy skies and cooler conditions due to overnight thunderstorms.

The overnight thunderstorm activity in Hyderabad and even in districts was extensive, as multiple regions received steady but moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds along with winds.


The spell of thunderstorms, which started in the early hours of Wednesday continued for a few hours, extended across almost all regions of the State. As a result of extensive cloud cover, the weather on Wednesday morning was cooler and pleasant.

The thunderstorms were widespread, as multiple regions including Siddipet, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Gadwal, Narayanpet, Nizamabad and Hyderabad witnessed overnight showers.

In the Hyderabad region, the thunderstorms were active in all parts of Medchal-Malkajgir, Ramachandrapuram (BHEL) in Sangareddy, Serilingampally and  Rajendranagar in Rangareddy districts.

Several regions in core regions of Hyderabad including Shaikpet, Asifnagar, Golconda, Khairatabad and Secunderabad also reported overnight thunderstorms.

According to TSDPS rainfall data, parts of Mahabubnagar (Bhootpur) received highest rainfall of 112 mm (11.2 cm) while several regions of Hyderabad received steady moderate rains, with Malkajgiri areas recording a maximum of 21.3 mm.
