Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao promised a 24-hour safe drinking water supply to every household in Hyderabad when the party returns to power. He said the previous BRS government had achieved round-the-clock electricity supply across Telangana, and the same model would be replicated for drinking water supply.
Addressing a meeting of party cadres in Kukatpally on Monday, Rama Rao recalled that before Telangana’s formation, the region had suffered decades of power cuts and water scarcity under successive governments. He said protests over electricity and drinking water were once a routine part of daily life.
However, the senior BRS leader said the BRS government had changed that situation, delivered uninterrupted 24-hour power supply and launched Mission Bhagiratha to provide piped drinking water to households across the State. He said the same commitment would now be focused on Hyderabad’s water supply.
“The person who gave 24-hour power to Telangana is KCR, and the person who will provide 24-hour drinking water to Hyderabad will also be KCR,” he said, adding that he would personally take responsibility for implementing the programme.
Hitting out at the Congress government, Rama Rao accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of taking credit for projects built during the BRS regime, including flyovers, hospitals and major infrastructure, by simply cutting ribbons and rebranding them. “Congress leaders are inaugurating what BRS built and calling it their own,” he said.
He challenged Congress leaders to show even a single double-bedroom housing unit in Hyderabad constructed by the party in the last two-and-a-half years. “If the Congress government can establish that one double-bedroom house has been built in this city under its rule, I will quit politics,” he declared.
The BRS working president said the Congress had cheated every section of society with promises made during the Assembly elections, including enhanced pensions and monthly financial assistance for women, but delivered none. He said Hyderabad’s real estate sector had taken a severe hit under Congress policies, triggering a slowdown in construction activity and causing loss of livelihoods for lakhs of construction and centring workers. He assured that after returning to power, the BRS would introduce dedicated insurance and welfare programmes for workers in the construction sector.
On the upcoming GHMC elections, he said the people of Hyderabad had already rejected the Congress by not electing the party to a single seat in the city and predicted a similar outcome in the civic polls.
Rama Rao also announced that the BRS membership drive would be conducted entirely in digital mode for 50 to 60 days, with special training sessions for workers on the enrolment process. He said committee formation would follow the membership campaign as part of a broader restructuring exercise.
The BRS working president made a detailed presentation on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and urged booth-level workers to remain vigilant against alleged fake and duplicate voter registrations by the Congress and BJP. He asked cadres to ensure that not a single genuine voter lost their franchise during the revision process and to actively assist people in navigating the enrolment procedures.
He said that while the previous BRS decade had focused entirely on development and welfare, the party would also ensure recognition, respect and suitable opportunities for every worker and leader who stood by it during difficult times.
