Adilabad/Mancherial: Farmers demanding that the government procure maize produce without any further delay, blocked traffic on Adilabad-Mancherial road at Birsaipet village on Monday.
Agitating farmers regretted that they were facing inconvenience caused by inordinate delay in procuring maize. They stated that they were unable to store the grains as they were not equipped with storage facilities. They lamented that they were forced to sell to private traders incurring losses in cultivation of the maize crop.
The vehicular movement on the bus stretch came to a standstill following the protest. Motorists expressed displeasure over the police and officials for failing to prevent farmers from blocking the road. Farmers however withdrew the protest when officials assured to procure the grains at the earliest, bringing relief to the motorists.
Meanwhile, BRS cadres staged a sit-in on a road demanding the government to procure paddy produce at Kishtampet village in Chennur mandal and Bheemaram mandal centre. They picked an argument with police for foiling their bid to block the traffic. They raised slogans against the government and criticized Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for showing negligence in buying paddy from the farmers.
