HMWSSB detects illegal borewells near Himayat Sagar Lake

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) officials found two illegal borewells within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone limits of Himayat Sagar Lake. An FIR was registered against an individual for alleged illegal commercial water supply activities.

In a press release on Sunday, the HMWSSB said the Board initiated action after finding that some individuals had illegally drilled borewells within the FTL and buffer zones of Himayat Sagar Lake to supply groundwater for commercial purposes through tankers.


During inspections near Himayat Sagar village at FTL numbers 33 and 34, officials identified two illegally set up borewells and a storage tank that was being used for a water supply business, it said.

An FIR was registered at Rajendranagar Police Station against an individual, Buchibabu, under Section 303(2) of the BNS for conducting illegal commercial water activities.

The Water Board asked the tahsildars of Moinabad, Shamshabad and Rajendranagar mandals to initiate immediate action if any illegal borewell drilling, groundwater usage or commercial water supply activities were identified in future within the Himayat Sagar FTL and buffer zones.
