Hyderabad: A rental dispute in Ameerpet involving the family of former Mayor Bonthu Rammohan Rao escalated on Thursday, after his mother-in-law and wife Bonthu Sridevi were booked in connection with the attack on a woman running a hostel on the leased property.

As per information available, the victim and her husband had taken a building on lease from Sridevi’s mother Bayyamma to operate a hostel and reportedly invested nearly Rs 2 crore in the business after securing private loans. The couple alleged that Sridevi and her family members had been pressuring them to vacate the premises for the past two years.

The complainants alleged that Bayamma arrived at the hostel along with around 30 people and tried to forcibly evict them. They alleged that Sridevi frequently visited and threatened them to vacate the premises.

Reports also stated that despite taking an advance amount through a lease agreement, the property was later leased to another party without informing the couple.

A video of the incident that surfaced on social media on Thursday allegedly showed Bayamma assaulting the woman by pulling her hair while a police officer present at the spot did not intervene.

Punjagutta police said a case has been registered against Sridevi and further action is being taken.
