Petbasheerabad police have registered cases against 27 social media accounts for allegedly revealing the identity of a POCSO case victim. Authorities have launched an investigation into claims that some handles also monetised the disclosure, violating legal provisions protecting victim privacy.

Hyderabad: The Petbasheerabad police registered a case against 27 social media accounts for allegedly revealing the identity of the POCSO case victim.

The cases were booked under various Sections of POCSO Act and IT Act, and investigation started. There are allegations against the channels that they had collected money from some individuals and intentionally revealed the personal details and identity of the victim on social media platforms in violation of the POCSO Act provisions that promote privacy of the victim of sexual crimes.
