Residents of a Bellampally colony staged a protest after alleged threats by Congress leaders reportedly forced a contractor to halt drainage construction work sanctioned under the DMFT scheme. Locals demanded immediate intervention by officials and completion of the long-pending civic infrastructure project.

Mancherial: Residents of a colony in Bellampally detested the attempts of Congress leaders to stall construction of drainage, just because the colony is part of a ward represented by a BRS councillor. The contractor for the took away the construction material after reportedly being threatened by a local Congress leader and the MLA’s personal assistant on Saturday morning.
The works for construction of a drainage network began in ward number 13 represented by a BRS councilor. He commenced the work by shifting cement, concrete and other construction material to the worksite. The estimated cost of the work was Rs 7 lakh, granted by the District Mineral Fund Trust (DMFT).
However, Congress Bellampalli town president Bandi Prabhakar and local MLA Vinod’s PA Vinod allegedly threatened the contractor for executing the work in the ward. They were accused of ordering him to immediately stall the work on the drainage. They reportedly told him that they would prevent sanctioning of bills if he continued to execute the work.
The contractor tried to take away the construction material from the ward. Residents of the ward expressed anger against stalling of the development work by the Congress leaders. They staged a sit-n at the worksite. They demanded officials to take steps to ensure the work was complete. They said that they were facing inconvenience due to the poor drainage system.
