Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday accused the BJP and the Congress of misusing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to delete supporters of opposition parties, particularly in States governed by regional parties. He urged party workers to remain alert and ensure that no genuine voter’s name was removed from the electoral rolls.
He also cautioned them against the alleged inclusion of fake voters and duplicate entries. He demanded a transparent and impartial voter verification process.
Addressing booth-level assistants (BLAs) of the BRS in LB Nagar Assembly constituency here, Rama Rao said the BRS had already submitted a representation to the Election Commission seeking neutrality during the SIR exercise while identifying bogus votes in Hyderabad. He instructed party leaders to personally visit every household, meet voters during the verification process and strengthen grassroots connections.
The BRS working president said both the Congress and BJP were attempting to manipulate electoral rolls for political gains. He said BRS cadre, especially aspiring GHMC corporator candidates, should actively engage with people and expose the anti-people policies of the Congress government in Telangana and the BJP government at the Centre.
Stating that public sentiment was turning against the ruling Congress government, he said there was growing demand across Telangana for the return of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and the BRS. He asserted that the Congress government effectively had only one year left before political activity intensified ahead of the next elections.
The former Minister called upon party cadre to update themselves through training programmes and educate the public about the achievements of the previous BRS government and also confront the Congress leadership on undelivered electoral promises. He announced that the BRS membership drive would begin in June through both online and offline modes, followed by the formation of party committees at various levels in July and August.
He also stressed the importance of social media activism, pointing out that sustained online pressure had forced the accused in the recent POCSO case to surrender.
