Balapur POCSO case: Man sentenced to life imprisonment

A special court sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a 2021 Balapur sexual assault case involving a minor girl. Two others received three-year prison terms for assisting the offence and threatening the survivor’s family. The court also awarded Rs 4 lakh compensation.

Hyderabad: A special court on Friday has sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a sexual assault case of a minor girl reported in Balapur in 2021. The convict, Mohd Azeem, was also fined Rs.22,000.

Two other convicts, Mohd Haleem and Jameela Begum, were sentenced to three years in prison for assisting in the offence and threatening the victim’s family.


Police said the case came to light after the minor was taken to hospital with stomach pain and was found to be pregnant. The convicted persons later forced her to consume abortion pills, causing a miscarriage.

The court awarded Rs 4 lakh compensation to the victim.
