Farmers in the erstwhile Medak district staged protests and blocked NH-161 over delays in paddy procurement. They alleged a lack of transportation, gunny bags and other facilities at procurement centres, accusing the government of failing to complete the procurement process on time.

Sangareddy: Farmers took to the streets over the delay in paddy procurement and other grains across the erstwhile Medak district on Wednesday. The farmers blocked NH-161 at Sulthanpur in Chowtakur mandal, demanding fast-tracking of the paddy procurement process. The farmers accused the government of having completely failed to complete the procurement on time.
The farmers said that they have been waiting at the procurement centres for days due to the lack of transportation facilities, gunny bags, paddy cleaners and other facilities. The farmers also staged a rasta-roko on the road at Makkarajupet in Medak district over a similar issue.
The farmers said that they have been waiting at the procurement centres for more than a month now due to the inordinate delay. The farmers staged similar protests across Medak district as the Congress government failed to speed up the procurement of paddy.
