Nalgonda: Raising strong objection over the Congress government’s negligence in procuring their stocks and transporting them to warehouses, farmers in erstwhile Nalgonda burnt the paddy stocks on roads at different locations.
Farmers staged a protest at the IKP procurement centre in Mallapuram village in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri on Tuesday. They charged that the Congress government was delaying the paddy procurement since last one month, for reasons better known to the officials.
Later, they raised slogans against the government and set fire to sacks of paddy. They demanded that the government immediately intervene and commence the procurement of paddy.
The farmers expressed their anguish, noting that under the previous BRS government, paddy procurement was conducted on a daily basis, without any hardships to the community.
Similarly, at Nakkalapalli village in Nalgonda, distressed farmers staged a protest by burning their paddy stocks on the road. The farmers complained that the government officials were delaying the procurement at the local market.
This apart, they charged that the officials had failed to make arrangements to shift the procured stocks to the warehouses. The stocks were weighed and certified and yet the officials were delaying the transportation, citing shortage of trucks, the farmers complained.
