Hyderabad: The TGSRTC is accelerating the expansion of electric vehicle infrastructure across the city as part of its plan to strengthen green public transport. As part of it, the RTC has initiated steps to establish Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations in all depots under the Greater Hyderabad zone.
Charging facilities are already operational at Cantonment, Miyapur, Ranigunj, Hayathnagar, and HCU depots, while a new charging station at Kukatpally is expected to be launched soon. According to authorities, plans have also been prepared to begin work at 13 additional locations, with a target to complete all stations within a year.
New EV charging stations are proposed at Jeedimetla, Kacheguda, MIDHANI, Bandlaguda, Musheerabad, Farooqnagar, Barkatpura, Mehdipatnam, Ibrahimpatnam, Medchal, Uppal, Chengicherla and Jawaharnagar.
The move comes in line with the State government’s decision to operate only electric buses within the ORR limits over the next two years. RTC officials said the corporation, in a phased manner, is expanding the required infrastructure to support the transition.
At present, around 490 electric buses are operating in Hyderabad region, and more buses are being planned to be introduced in phases in the coming months.
