Hyderabad: Demanding justice for a dalit student, who was allegedly subjected to casteist slurs by another student, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) students staged a relay hunger strike on the university campus here on Tuesday.
Protesters demanded the university release the fact-finding committee report filed by the SC/ST liaison officer.
In a statement, Ambedkar Students’ Association (ASA) said Anuj, a second-year M.A. (Sociology) student, was subjected to casteist violence by a student from the UoH on December 11, 2025.
While he had filed a complaint with the university authorities the next day, his complaint was not addressed for months until a series of protests were launched, it said.
After violating the UGC-mandated deadline for redressal of grievances by three months, the administration finally disclosed recommendations of the anti-discrimination office, which demanded only a private apology, and a token fine of Rs. 5,000 from the perpetrator who physically assaulted and humiliated Anuj with casteist slurs, it claimed.
The administration further compounded the injustice by suppressing the fact-finding committee’s report, it said, adding that recommendations were issued without sharing the report with the complainant or incorporating its findings.
