Hyderabad: Heatwave conditions have intensified across Telangana over the last 24-hours, with several districts recording temperatures well above the 41 degree Celsius. The temperature data from India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad recorded till 8.30 am, Sunday reveals that Telangana is gripped by extreme summer heat and significant departures from normal temperatures.
The northern districts continue to face the brunt of the heat stress with Nizamabad recording the state’s highest maximum temperature (in the last 24-hours) at 44 degree Celsius followed by Adilabad followed at (43.8), with a departure of 2.5 degree Celsius above normal.
Medak district sizzled at 43.6 degree Celsius, showing a significant 2 degree Celsius increase over seasonal averages. Ramagundam and Khammam also recorded high temperatures of 43 and 42.8 degree Celsius respectively.
Hyderabad (Begumpet) recorded a maximum of 41.5 degree Celsius (1.8 degree Celsius) departure) while Hakimpet recorded 41.6, a sharp 3.6 degree Celsius departure from the normal range. The maximum temperatures at Hayathnagar touched 41.4 degree Celsius, which is 3 degree Celsius above normal.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad has issued a Yellow Warning for several districts, including Nizamabad, Adilabad, and Hyderabad, for the next 48 hours. While hot temperatures are expected to persist, there are isolated forecasts for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) in specific pockets of the state by late Sunday evening.
Residents are advised to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours as the state continues to simmer under these high-temperature conditions.
