The Union Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department selected Vittu Nayak Thanda for the award based on its performance on nine indicators.

There are 12,566 villages across 553 rural mandals spread over 31 rural districts in Telangana. Vittu Nayak Thanda performed better than all these villages when the performance on the nine indicators was taken as an average. Fasalwadi village in Sangareddy mandal stood first on the women-friendly indicator in the State, while eight different villages across the State stood first on the remaining eight indicators.

Vittu Nayak Thanda, located in a remote area in Zaheerabad Assembly constituency, shot to fame after the Union government announced the award on the occasion of Panchayat Raj Day. Speaking to Telangana Today, Panchayat Secretary Nanchari Sandeep said they were elated to receive the award since they considered it an honour for all their work. Since they had uploaded information based on the activities in the gram panchayat during the particular year, Sandeep said the government found them to be the best in Telangana on these nine indicators.

The indicators were poverty-free and enhanced livelihoods, health panchayat, women-friendly panchayat, child-friendly panchayat, water-sufficient panchayat, clean and green panchayat, self-sufficient infrastructure panchayat, socially just and secure panchayat, and panchayat with good governance. Following the information uploaded by them, two different central teams inspected the village on March 17 and 21 this year to examine the accuracy of the details furnished by them.

The teams interacted with the residents and staff to assess the village. Sarpanch Jadhav Chandu said they would work to make their village even better in the coming days with the support of citizens and the government. He urged the Telangana government to grant special funds to take up various development works in the village in recognition of their earlier work.
