Hyderabad: A one-month-long summer coaching camp in archery in Mahabubabad was formally inaugurated at Government High School (Manukota) on Sunday.
The camp is being organised by the Telangana Archery Association in coordination with the Khammam and Warangal District Archery Associations, with support from S Muthaiah Memorial Trust.
The organisers have invited two best archers from each district across the State, and the response has been pretty good, with 130 local boys and girls reporting today and 20 from the districts.
Internationals, including Morappa and Laxman, will train the young talent, and those from the districts will be given advanced coaching.
S Sarangapani, DSP and Khammam District Archery Association president, is the brain behind the camp.
He said that the camp would unearth young talent which could be groomed into champion performers.
Dr P Shankaraiah, All India Development Committee member of the Archery Association of India, said there are two sports schools of ITDA, two SAI centres, two Gurukulams and two Ekalavya Schools in the combined Khammam district.
