Heatwave grips erstwhile Adilabad, farm labourer dies of suspected sunstroke

Severe heatwave conditions prevailed across erstwhile Adilabad district, with temperatures touching 44.3°C in several areas. A farm labourer died of suspected sunstroke in Bheempur mandal, as extreme heat forced residents indoors and disrupted daily activities.

Adilabad: Parts of erstwhile Adilabad district saw scorching heat wave conditions on Friday. The sweltering heat wave claimed the life of a farm laborer.

As per weather report available on the website of Telangana Planning Development Society, Kommera village in Chennur mandal of Mancherial district registered the maximum temperature by 44.3 degrees Celsius as against the average maximum temperature of 41.8 degrees C. Dasturabad in Nirmal district also recorded the same maximum temperature, while Asifabad mandal had the maximum temperature of 44.2 degrees C.


Similarly, Adilabad Urban mandal witnessed the maximum temperature of 43.3 degrees Celsius. People were forced indoors between 11 am and 4 pm. They stayed hydrated by consuming fresh fruit juices, ice apples and watermelons to beat the heat. Roads wore a deserted look. Students were seen carrying umbrellas to avoid sultry weather. Coal mines and opencast projects of SCCL saw a dip in coal production.

Meanwhile, Tekam Gajanan (43), a farm laborer, died of sunstroke at Arli (T) village in Bheempur mandal. He was engaged in making arrangements for a wedding at the time of the incident. He was immediately shifted to RIMS-Adilabad, but doctors declared that he was brought dead. He is survived by a wife and two sons.
