Nagarkurnool: Farmers in the district confronted Congress MLAs Kuchkulla Rajesh Reddy and C Vamsi Krishna over the delay in procurement of maize stocks. They accused the legislators of failing to address their concerns.
Maize farmers have been staging protests at Nellikonda chowrastha, alleging that officials have been slow in procuring their produce. They also pointed to a severe shortage of gunny bags.
On Friday, tensions escalated after officials reportedly halted procurement. Farmers gathered at the chowrastha and intensified their protest.
As Nagarkurnool MLA Rajesh Reddy and Achampet MLA C. Vamsi Krishna were on their way to the District Collectorate for a meeting, farmers stopped their vehicles and demanded answers. The protesters accused the MLAs of ignoring their problems and asked why no instructions were issued to speed up procurement.
The legislators attempted to pacify the crowd, but the farmers refused to back down. Amid sloganeering, the MLAs left the spot without resolving the issue.
