Hyderabad: Over 200 members of the Water Works Employees Union, Telangana, held an hour-long protest in front of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) main office at Khairatabad on Monday.

The protesters held placards, raised slogans and staged the demonstration under the leadership of Water Works Union president TRSKV Rambabu.

He said the HMWSSB management transferred employees without their consent to three civic bodies, including Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) and Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), as part of the erstwhile GHMC trifurcation. He said the union strongly condemned the move and alleged that the employee transfers were hasty.

“It is mandatory that before transferring a Water Board employee, the management has to provide an option form to the employee who wants to be transferred and in the presence of the recognised union. But the HMWSSB management violated this norm and carried out transfers without giving option forms,” said Rambabu.

He also said the Water Board officials had to provide uniforms to 2,973 employees, from General Purpose Employee (GPE) up to Technical Officer (TO), every year, but it was ignored. The Water Board management has to provide hats to all field staff in view of summer, but that also did not materialise.
