Unseasonal rains damage crops, farmers stage rasta-roko in Chegunta

Medak: Seeking compensation for crops damaged in unseasonal rains coupled with gales, farmers blocked the Karnalpally-Makkarajpet road in Chegunta mandal on Monday. Rains coupled with gales lashed several parts of the district on Sunday, resulting in crop loss to a large extent.

Farmers from villages in Chegunta mandal demanded that officials carry out enumeration of crop loss and staged a rasta roko. According to the district agriculture officer (DAO), Medak, crops in 4,777 acres were damaged, with paddy accounting for 4,701 acres.

The harvested paddy brought to procurement centres was also damaged. The crop loss at the time of harvest left the farmers devastated. Since the IMD had predicted more rains for the next few days, farmers are worried about the safe harvesting of their crop.
