Prashanth Reddy condemns cases against farmers protesting for farm loan waiver

Nizamabad: Former Minister and MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of targeting BRS leaders and farmers in Kammarpally with illegal cases for demanding implementation of a farm loan waiver. He urged the government to withdraw the cases, implement a full loan waiver, and address farmers’ concerns.

In a statement, Prashanth Reddy said several farmers and BRS workers were being forced to attend court hearings for nearly two years after questioning the government over the farm loan waiver. He alleged that the cases reflected an authoritarian approach of the Congress government.

He pointed out that in Balkonda constituency, only 22,000 out of 52,000 eligible farmers had received loan waivers, leaving 30,000 farmers in the lurch. Farmers who appeared at the Armoor court on Friday were justified in demanding relief, he said. He warned that the BRS would launch large-scale protests if the demands were ignored.
