Khammam: Puligundala Ecotourism Project in the Kanakagiri reserve forest area in Sathupalli constituency of Khammam district is now open for nature lovers.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, along with Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and Sathupalli MLA Matta Ragamayee Dayanand, inaugurated the project on Wednesday. Cottages, boating facilities and a jungle safari developed as part of the project were also launched.
Puligundala Ecotourism Project in the Kanakagiri reserve forest of Tallada Range is spread over Khammam and Kothagudem districts, encompassing Kalloor and Penuballi mandals. It has been developed with the objective of promoting responsible tourism and fostering environmental awareness, as well as generating employment opportunities for the local population.
Speaking on the occasion, Vikramarka said the State government was giving top priority to the tourism sector to showcase Telangana’s natural beauty to the world. Funds were allocated in the budget to develop the Kanakagiri area in Khammam district as a tourist destination.
A double road from Kanakagiri to improve tourist connectivity is being planned and the district Collector has been instructed to prepare proposals immediately. The Puligundala project, Kanakagiri hills and Kalloor hills would be integrated and developed into a major tourist hub, he said.
MLA Ragamayee Dayanand informed that Rs 4 crore was required for tourism development at Puligundala tank. Rs 2 crore from the Green Fund and Rs 2 crore through CSR funds have been allocated to the project.
Wyra MLA M Ramdas Naik, district Collector Anudeep Durishetty, PCCF Officer Suvarna, CCF Bhima Naik, Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt, DFO Khammam Siddharth Vikram Singh, Kalloor Sub-Collector Ajay Yadav and others were present.
