AAP vs BJP As Delhi Tableau Rejected For Republic Day Parade Yet Again

AAP vs BJP As Delhi Tableau Rejected For Republic Day Parade Yet Again

New Delhi:

Delhi will not have a tableau in the traditional Republic Day parade at the Rajpath again this year. This would be the fourth time the national capital has not been included — a situation that has sparked a war of words again between Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP. Mr Kejriwal, who headed the Delhi government for almost a decade, led his party’s attack on the BJP — his comments coloured by the coming assembly election.

“For the last so many years, the tableau of Delhi is not allowed to participate in the parade. What kind of politics is this? Why do they hate the people of Delhi so much? Why should the people of Delhi vote for them?” Mr Kejriwal said in a pointed message.

“They have no vision for the people of Delhi. They only abuse Kejriwal. Should we vote for them just for this? Why are the tableau and the people of Delhi being stopped from participating in the 26th January parade?” he said.

Delhi, he added, is the capital of India and should be represented every year in the January 26 parade.

The BJP claimed Mr Kejriwal’s comments indicated his “anarchist nature” and questioned what the former Chief Minister wished to display.

“I want to ask him what he wants to show (in the tableau of Delhi). The severe overflow where more than 60 people died… or the ‘Sheeshmahal’ that he has made by looting the money of people,” said Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva.

“The tableau of the whole country is displayed in the parade of Republic Day. A committee decides the tableau. Now, Arvind Kejriwal wants to do politics in this too,” he said.

“We have not forgotten the Republic Day of 2014 when Arvind Kejriwal staged a protest,” Mr Sachdeva added.

Last year too, Delhi was not allowed a tableau in the parade. Senior AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said it was the third time in a row and claimed it was the BJP’s “revenge” after losing to AAP in the Punjab assembly election.

Mr Bharadwaj said it’s not a coincidence that Punjab’s tableau proposal was also rejected.

Officials said the last time Delhi’s tableau featured in the Republic Day parade was in 2021. It showcased the Shahjahanabad redevelopment project.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that the United States and Israeli regime are conspiring to undermine Muslim countries and dominate the region.

In a phone conversation with Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Jamal Ahmed Ali Amer on Sunday, Araghchi condemned joint attacks by the US, Britain and the Israeli regime on Yemen.

He added that the US is blatantly violating the principles and rules of international law on behalf of the Zionist regime and within the framework of a joint plan to destroy and weaken Muslim countries and dominate the region.

The top Iranian diplomat hailed the Yemeni people’s resistance in the face of the Israeli regime and their support for the oppressed people of Palestine.

Araghchi emphasized that the Israeli regime has failed to achieve its malicious goals, despite carrying out numerous acts of crime and aggression with full support from the US and some Western countries.

Yemenis have declared their open support for Palestine’s struggle against the Israeli occupation since the regime launched a devastating war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, after the territory’s resistance movements carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity.

The Yemeni Ansarullah resistance movement maintains that it targets ships linked to Israel, the United States, or the United Kingdom to force an end to the Tel Aviv regime’s genocidal war on Gaza.

The Yemeni armed forces have said they will not stop their attacks until Israel’s ground and aerial offensives in Gaza end.

The Gaza Health Ministry said on Sunday that at least 45,259 people have been killed and 107,627 injured during more than 14 months of the Israeli regime’s genocidal war.

The Yemeni foreign minister, for his part, expressed appreciation for Iran’s support for the Yemeni government and nation in the face of the enemies’ acts of aggression.

He said the US and Israel are striving to dominate the region, urging Muslim countries and nations to utilize their enormous capacities to prevent them from achieving their goals.

India on cusp of 6G boom, but 91% Telangana government schools lurk in digital dark age

Hyderabad: In this age of smartphones, electronic appliances, big machines and seamless communication from far off distances via the internet, students studying in the Telangana government-run schools remain stuck in a digital dark age.

As India is on the cusp of a technology revolution with soon-to-be-rolled-out 6G services, a staggering 91 per cent of Telangana government-run schools lack the basic facility of internet connection.

Of the 30,023 government schools in the State, only 2,772 (9.23 per cent) have internet access, highlighting the digital chasm.

Telangana is far behind its neighbour Andhra Pradesh, where 45 per cent of 45,137 government schools have access to the internet. Ironically, the State also lags behind than the national average of 24.16 per cent.

“Though cables were laid for providing internet connection under the ‘Mana Ooru – Mana Badi‘ programme, the schools are yet to get the service. Some schools have been provided with tabs, which have internet facility. Apart from internet, the government must ensure computers in all schools,” a high school headmaster said, requesting anonymity.

Among the larger States, Telangana, with 9.23 per cent, stands at third place behind Bihar (5.85 per cent) and Uttar Pradesh (8.81 per cent).

These details were recently shared by Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary in Lok Sabha in response to a question on internet facility in schools raised by MPs Dr MP Abdussamad Samadani and Gowaal Kagada Padavi.

Though private schools in Telangana have better internet facilities compared to their government counterparts, they fare poorly compared to the national average of 59.63 per cent.

A total of 56.73 per cent of 12,193 private schools in the State have internet facilities.

However, among the major States — Kerala with 95.13 per cent and Maharashtra with 85.85 per cent of private schools with internet facility — Telangana is far behind on the chart.

Leader: Iran neither has nor needs proxy forces

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has dismissed claims that Iran has been cut off from its “proxy forces” in the region, asserting that the Islamic Republic neither has nor needs such forces to achieve its objectives.

He made the remarks on Sunday during a meeting with a group of religious eulogists on the occasion of the birthday anniversary of Hazrat Fatemeh Zahra (SA), the beloved daughter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The Leader contended that the resistance fighters in Yemen, and groups such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah, and the Palestinian Hamas and Islamic Jihad, are fighting because of their faith.

“They (the enemies) consistently say that the Islamic Republic has lost its regional proxies—this is yet another mistake! The Islamic Republic does not have any proxy forces,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Resistance fighters, he explained, “are driven by their beliefs; they fight because of their convictions, not on our behalf.”

He also noted that should Iran ever decide to take action, it would not require a proxy force to do so.

In regard to the situation in Syria, the Leader foresaw the emergence of a “strong and honorable establishment.”

The United States’ plot to dominate countries involves establishing a dictatorship or fomenting chaos and riots, with the latter being the case in Syria, he added.

“The Americans, the Zionist regime, and their allies mistakenly believe they have emerged victorious, leading them to make absurd statements,” he said, referencing comments from a US official that appeared to promise support for anyone inciting unrest in Iran.

“The Iranian nation will trample under its strong feet anyone who assumes a mercenary role for the US in this matter.”

Neville Says Rashford's Career At Man United Nearing 'Inevitable Ending'

Gary Neville believes Marcus Rashford is approaching the “inevitable ending” of his Manchester United career after the forward was again left out of the matchday squad on Sunday. The 27-year-old England international will sit out a third successive game United prepared to face Bournemouth in the Premier League at Old Trafford. Rashford was also omitted by new manager Ruben Amorim for last weekend’s 2-1 win at Manchester City and Thursday’s 4-3 League Cup quarter-final loss at Tottenham.

Rashford, a product of the United youth system, told journalist Henry Winter on Tuesday he was “ready for a new challenge and the next steps”, with former United and England full-back Neville believing little can now be done to stop a parting between player and club.

“It is not really big team news any more,” Neville told Sky Sports shortly before Sunday’s match. “It is something of a norm, a pattern has developed over the last week. It was a surprise last weekend.

“It is getting to the point where you leave him out three games on the bounce something really is obviously going wrong or has gone wrong and it is not looking great for both Marcus’s future at the club or Manchester United keeping him either.

“I suspect it is getting to that point in the journey where it has got an inevitable ending.”

Neville, now a pundit, added: “It is a distraction for the manager. It does become obvious that he probably has to leave and that the club want him to leave — it will probably work for both parties.

“There are good examples as well of players who have struggled at United…Jadon Sancho has gone to Chelsea and is doing better, Scott McTominay wasn’t struggling but he left to go to Napoli and he is doing well, so Marcus might think it is the right thing for him as well.”

Amorim cited “selection” reasons for Rashford’s absence in the previous two matches and did so again on Sunday, with the Portuguese boss, speaking before kick-off against the Cherries, saying: “It is my decision and it always will be.

“It is selection. I want to see the best of my players and I try different things with different players, so that is my focus.”

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police are writing to the DGP office to initiate disciplinary action against Vishnu Murthy, a DSP-rank officer who was placed under suspension, for holding a press conference in regard to the Allu Arjun controversy without obtaining permission from officials concerned.

Murthy worked with the Task Force wing of the Karimnagar police and was placed under suspension in October following various allegations against him.

On Sunday, he held a press meet at Press Club Hyderabad and accused the Pushpa 2 actor of lacking a basic understanding of the law. He also warned him against tarnishing the police force’s reputation. He targeted the Telugu film industry, too, for speaking against the police department.

Akshansh Yadav, DCP (central), said a report against Murthy will be forwarded to the DGP office seeking initiation of action against him.

“The DGP office will investigate the matter and take necessary action. We reiterate that such actions will not be tolerated and necessary disciplinary measures will be taken against those who violate the conduct rules,” the DCP said.
