Russia confirms death of 200 terrorists in northwestern Syria

The Russian Defense Ministry announced that these people were killed during the attack by Russian Air Force fighters in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib.

The terrorists claimed that 23 people were killed and wounded in the Russian attack on the city of Idlib.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also confirmed that four people were killed and 19 others were injured in these attacks.

Adelaide: Following defeat against Indian in the first Test, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting advised struggling batters Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith to trust their game akin to star India batter Virat Kohli to turn their fortunes around in the remaining four Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Labuschagne was all at sea against Jasprit Bumrah-led Indian pacers in the opening Test at Perth, which the Aussies lost by a whopping 295-run margin, making a 52-ball 2 and 3. Smith looked equally out of sorts while making a first-ball duck and 60-ball 17 before succumbing to Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj in the first and second innings respectively.

“Marnus looked the most tentative out of all the batters in Perth. Yes, it was high quality bowling on a difficult wicket, but he needs to find a way to turn it around,” Ponting told ICC Review. Ponting cited how Kohli broke the shackles at Perth.

“Virat went back to trusting his game and he looked like a different player in the second innings than he did in the first innings,” Ponting said. Kohli fell to Josh Hazlewood for five in the first innings but made an unbeaten 100, his 30th Test hundred, in the second innings that helped India set a massive 534-run target.

“He (Kohli) got away from trying to combat the opposition and focused on his strengths. That’s what Marnus and (Steve) Smith need to do – find their own way and show great intent,” said Ponting.

Ponting, who has 13,378 runs from 168 Tests with 41 hundreds, asked the Australian batters to take more risk and apply pressure on the Indian bowlers. “You have to find a way to take risks and put it back on those guys because you know the Bumrahs of the world… they’re not going to give you too many easy scoring opportunities.

New Delhi: Shares of nine of the 11 listed Adani Group firms were trading higher during morning trade on Thursday, with Adani Total Gas soaring nearly 19 per cent.

The stock of Adani Total Gas soared 18.58 per cent, Adani Power zoomed 11.44 per cent, Adani Energy Solutions jumped 9.99 per cent and Adani Green Energy surged 9.99 per cent on the BSE.

Shares of Adani Enterprises climbed 5.32 per cent, NDTV (3.35 per cent), Adani Wilmar (3.17 per cent), Adani Ports (2.25 per cent) and Sanghi Industries (2.19 per cent). Adani Energy Solutions and Adani Green Energy also hit their highest trading permissible limit for the day.

However, ACC and Ambuja Cements were trading marginally lower. The BSE benchmark Sensex traded 688.82 points lower at 79,545.26 and the NSE Nifty quoted 222.20 points lower at 24,052.70.

On Wednesday, shares of all Adani Group firms ended sharply higher, with Adani Total Gas and Adani Power soaring nearly 20 per cent. Embattled billionaire Gautam Adani and his aides have not been charged under the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, an Adani Group entity said on Wednesday, adding that they faced three other charges, including securities and wire fraud that are punishable with monetary fines.

The US Department of Justice’s (US DOJ) indictment filed in a New York Court last week does not mention Gautam Adani, founder chairman of the ports-to-energy conglomerate, his nephew Sagar, or Vneet Jaain in any count related to conspiracy to violate the FCPA, Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL), said in a stock exchange filing.

AGEL is at the heart of the allegation of $265 million bribes being paid to Indian officials to secure solar power sale contracts that could bring in $2 billion of profits over a 20-year period to the firm.

The three — executives at AGEL — have only been charged with securities fraud conspiracy, wire fraud conspiracy, and securities fraud, the company said. In general, the penalties for such charges are less severe than bribery. Adani Group had last week denied all allegations as baseless, and said it would seek legal recourse to defend itself.

Indian Gaganyatris complete initial training for joint ISRO-NASA mission to ISS

During this phase of training, the Gaganyatris have completed initial orientations for mission-related ground facility tours.

Bengaluru: Two Indian astronauts chosen for the upcoming Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) have completed the initial phase of training, the ISRO has said.

According to ISRO, towards the goal of accomplishing a joint ISRO-NASA effort to the International Space Station, the two Gaganyatris (Prime-Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla and Backup-Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair) assigned for Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) commenced their training in the USA from first week of August,2024.

The initial phase of training has been completed successfully by the Gaganyatris. During this phase of training, the Gaganyatris have completed initial orientations for mission-related ground facility tours, initial overview of mission launch phases, SpaceX suit fit checks, and selected space food options, it said.

Furthermore, the training also included familiarization sessions with the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft and various onboard systems of the International Space Station, including photography from space, daily operations routine, and communication protocols.

One of the highlights of this phase was training for various types of emergencies in space, including medical emergencies, the space agency said. Upcoming training will primarily address the remaining modules of the US Orbital Segment of the space station along with training towards conducting scientific research experiments in the microgravity environment during the mission.

“In addition, the crew will train and perform different mission scenarios in the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft.” Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh in August had said that an Indian astronaut is likely to fly to the International Space Station by April next year as part of the NASA-ISRO collaborative initiative.

Notifications issued for land acquisition in Polepally, Lagacherla for multipurpose industrial park

On Saturday, fresh notifications were issued for acquiring 71.39 acres in Polepally and 110.32 acres in Lagacherla villages, this time for a multipurpose industrial park

Hyderabad: Even as tribal farmers and villagers are standing firm over not parting with their lands in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal constituency, the Vikarabad district administration had issued fresh notifications for acquiring land in Polepally and Lagacherla under Dudyal mandal.

In the earlier notifications, 1358.37 acres were to be acquired in Hakimpet, Polepally and Lagacherla for establishing a pharma village in the same mandal. However, with tribal farmers and residents putting up a relentless fight, the notifications were withdrawn on Friday.

On Saturday, fresh notifications were issued for acquiring 71.39 acres in Polepally and 110.32 acres in Lagacherla villages, this time for a multipurpose industrial park.

Compared to the last notification, the land acquisition area has been curtailed from 632.26 acres to 110.32 acres in Lagacherla, while the acquisition area remains the same in Polepally village.

The farmers and residents have been vociferously declaring that they would not part with their lands. Yet, the State government is sticking to its plans on acquisition and this time it is for a multipurpose industrial park in place of a pharma village.

Ever since the land acquisition notification was issued on August 3, the farmers and villagers have been up in arms against acquisition. Since the last few months, protests have been staged at different places over the State government’s plans.

On November 12, Vikarabad district Collector Prateek Jain and KADA special officer Venkat Reddy were chased away by the villagers when they wanted to conduct a public hearing programme in Lagacherla.

A few persons, including farmers have been arrested in connection with the incident. Women had complained about atrocities by police at midnight.

Following the incident, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes Jatothu Hussain Nayak visited Lagacherla and neighbouring villages and interacted with the farmers and villagers.

Speaking to media persons, Hussain Nayak had said the farmers and residents were not willing to part with their lands for any kind of projects.

This apart, the National Human Rights Commission had taken cognizance of the Lagacherla incident and a three-member delegation visited the village and interacted with the farmers. They also visited the Sangareddy jail where the farmers have been jailed and interacted with them.

Hezbollah leader hails ‘great sacrifices’, says resistance crushed Israeli enemy

Hezbollah’s secretary general hails the Lebanese resistance movement’s fighters over their stellar performance in the face of months-long deadly Israeli escalation.

“The sacrifices that were made in the face of the enemy’s violations were very great [in number],” Sheikh Naim Qassem said on Friday in his first televised speech following the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.

“You exercised patience and Jihad. Your sons fought off the enemy in the valleys so they can crush the enemy. We thank God that this patience bore fruit,” he added, addressing the Lebanese people.

The comments followed thousands of retaliatory operations by Hezbollah against Israeli targets, which forced the regime to enter a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon.

This occurred approximately 13 months after Israel intensified its aggression, claiming the lives of at least 3,961 people.

Sheikh Qassem referred to the regime’s ramping up the deadly aggression even further over the past 63 days with the aim of “destroying” Hezbollah and stopping its strikes that had driven hundreds of thousands of illegal settlers from the occupied Palestinian territories.

Besides seeking to eliminate the movement, the additional escalation was aimed at enabling the settlers to return to the occupied territories as well as being an attempt at “creating a new Middle East,” he noted.

“The Israeli regime expected to realize its goals in short term after delivering blows to our leadership and equipment,” the resistance leader stated, referring to the regime’s assassinating several high-ranking Hezbollah officials, including his predecessor, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Hezbollah, however, managed to persevere and resist on the frontline and began “crushing the enemy’s interior front to the point that it forced it into a defensive position,” he said.

“The fighters’ epic and legendary steadfastness astounded the people of the world, daunted the Israeli army, and afflicted it with despair,” said the resistance leader.

“Our enemies have suffered defeat, and their remarks bear witness to this [too],” he noted, pointing to various Israeli officials’ admission of the regime’s stopping short of realizing its war goals.

According to Sheikh Qassem, the resistance, through its outstanding performance, proved that it was prepared for warfare, and that the plans that Nasrallah had devised were effective and had taken all relevant developments into account.

“We are bearing witness to a great victory that is far beyond the victory that was achieved during the 33-Day War of 2006,” he said, referring to the Western-backed Israeli war of that year, during which the regime was forced to beat a humiliating retreat on the back of Hezbollah’s determined struggle.

“The enemy came under siege and was forced to stop the war,” Sheikh Qassem said of the movement’s debilitating strikes during the Israeli regime’s attacks against Lebanon this year, reminding that a large number of Israeli forces were killed as a result of Hezbollah’s retaliatory operations that resulted in the Israeli military’s “hitting a dead end.”

Sheikh Qassem, meanwhile, noted that the regime had also counted upon igniting the flames of “internal sedition” in Lebanon, but fell short of doing so in light of favorable cooperation among various Lebanese tribes, factions, and forces.

ICC prosecutor rejects Israeli appeal of arrest warrants for Netanyahu

The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) says Israel’s attempt to suspend arrest warrants for prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former minister of military affairs Yoav Gallant should be dismissed and the appeal proceedings halted.

In a document posted on the ICC website, Karim Khan urged the Appeals Chamber of The Hague-based tribunal to turn down the Tel Aviv regime’s request, emphasizing it doesn’t meet the legal conditions required under ICC rules.

He noted that the decision Israel is challenging doesn’t involve “admissibility,” a key requirement for such appeals, but instead addresses procedural complaints about the investigation.

Khan said the decision tells Israel that it cannot file a challenge to jurisdiction before the court has made a decision under Article 58 of the Rome Statute; but also holds that such a challenge could potentially be made once that condition is satisfied.

“The decision is not a decision ‘with respect to jurisdiction’ and it is therefore not directly appealable under Article 82(1)(a) of the Statute,” he said.

“Accordingly, these appeal proceedings should be discontinued and Israel’s Suspension Request be rejected while the proceedings before Pre-Trial Chamber with respect to the same Decision follow their course.

“In any event, there is no legal basis to suspend the arrest warrants issued by the Pre-Trial Chamber,” the prosecutor stated.

Earlier this week, Israel filed a direct appeal to the Appeals Chamber, alleging that the investigation and arrest warrants were procedurally flawed.

It also demanded a suspension of the warrants while the appeal is resolved. At the same time, Israel filed an appeal with the Pre-Trial Chamber, which issued the warrants.

Last week, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

According to ICC regulations, The Hague-based court does not conduct trials in absentia, and the defendants must be physically present in order for the case to begin.

As the tribunal has no police to enforce its warrants, it depends on its member states to implement its orders.

The White House has rejected the ICC warrants for both Netanyahu and Gallant.

Backed by the United States and its Western allies, Israel launched the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Flood against the Israeli regime in response to the occupying entity’s decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.

The regime’s bloody onslaught on Gaza has so far killed 44,363 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 105,070 others. Thousands more are also missing and presumed dead under rubble.

Iran vows support for Syria amid terrorism resurgence, warns neighbors of 'trap'

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has vowed to support Syria in its fight against terrorists after the resurgence of Takfiri terrorism in the Arab country.

“The new movements of Takfiri-terrorist groups are part of the plot of the US and the illegitimate Zionist regime,” Qalibaf said on Friday in a post on his X account.

He urged the neighbors of Syria “to be vigilant and not to fall into their trap.”

“After defeating the Zionist regime, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the axis of resistance will support the Syrian government and people against the new conspiracy like in the past,” Qalibaf stressed.

The Takfiri terrorists led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham launched a large-scale attack in Aleppo and Idlib provinces in the northwest of Syria on Wednesday, seizing several areas, according to some reports.

Since then, the Syrian government forces have been engaged in fierce clashes with the terrorists to regain ground.

“Our armed forces were able to inflict heavy losses on the attacking [terrorist] organizations and inflict hundreds of deaths and injuries among the terrorists’ ranks,” the General Command of the country’s Army and Armed Forces said in a statement on Friday.

The Syrian soldiers also “destroyed dozens of armored vehicles and [other] vehicles and were able to shoot down and destroy 17 drones,” it added.

Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation with his Syrian counterpart Bassam al-Sabbagh.

The Iranian diplomat termed the development “an American-Zionist design” that had ensued the Israeli regime’s defeats at the hands of resistance movements in Lebanon and throughout the Palestinian territories.

Araghchi also underlined the Islamic Republic’s continued support for the Syrian government, nation, and army towards fighting terrorism and protecting regional security and stability.

Since March 2011, Syria has been gripped by a campaign of militancy and destruction sponsored by the US and its allies.

In recent years, however, Syrian government forces, backed by Russia and Iran, have managed to regain control over almost all regions.

"To Allow Kohli To Get 100…": Aus Great Blasts Team For Star's Perth Ton

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has slammed the Pat Cummins-led side for allowing India star batter Virat Kohli to score a century in the 1st Test in Perth earlier this week. Kohli arrived in Australia under a lot of pressure after failing in India’s home Test series loss against New Zealand, where he scored just 93 across six innings. However, the former India captain was in vintage batting form as he scored his 30th Test century, and the 81st of his glorious international career.

While analysing his knock, Clarke suggested that the century in Perth will boost Kohli’s confidence for the remainder of the series.

“Yeah, you couldn’t ask for a better second innings, really. How he come to the crease, minimal pressure on him, he wasn’t scoring as many runs as he would like, sort of walk out like that, team dominating the situation. He played the way we know Virat can play though. So what he did was he was sharp, he was switched on because he knew he needed some runs for his own confidence. So he did the hard work early, and then he earned the right to play his natural game. And by the end of his innings, it was, everyone was sitting there saying, Virat’s back, and there’s no doubt about it,” Clarke told ESPN Around The Wicket.

Clarke blasted Australia for allowing Kohli to settle so early into the series, adding that the hosts have an uphill task ahead with Kohli seemingly back to his best.

“Now, as I mentioned before, a ball was bowled this series. The best players, you don’t want them on top at the start of the series. You want them to have to work their backside off to get into the series. And if they score 100 by Test match three or four, you sort of accept that because they’re so good. But to allow him to get 100 in that first test, we’ve got some work to do now to keep him down because he’s full of confidence. He’s got that strut back. And that’s when he’s at his best. That’s why he’s been the best player in the world for such a long period of time,” he added.
