Telangana Congress govt trying to do away with Rythu Bandhu, says Harish Rao

BRS leader T Harish Rao

Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao accused the Congress government of hatching a conspiracy to do away with the Rythu Bandhu scheme launched by the previous BRS government. He demanded the government to give clarity on the implementation of the scheme and immediately release the pending Vanakalam and Yasangi season amount.

Harish Rao said it was deplorable that Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao was claiming that the farmers were saying that the bonus of Rs 500 given to fine rice was better than that of Rythu Bandhu. The BRS leader reminded that Rythu Bandhu was the only scheme in the world that had provided investment assistance to farmers, and the United Nations praised it.

The Congress government announced to buy 5,19,605 quintals of fine rice with a bonus of Rs 500 per quintal out of the total yield of 1.53 crore tonnes produced in the State, he said, adding that according to this calculation, the bonus received by the farmers should be only about Rs 26 crore. Whereas, Rs 7,500 crore per year would need to be deposited in the farmers’ accounts under Rythu Bandhu and if the government pays Rs 15,000 per acre as stated in the manifesto, this will be even more, he pointed out.

“How paying Rs 500 per quintal to farmers is better than the Rythu Bandhu scheme, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Agriculture Minister should tell the farmers,” he said.

When Congress came to power it waived loans of half of the farmers and did not provide crop loan waiver to remaining farmers, causing huge loss to them, he said, adding that the Chief Minister said he would provide bonus for all crops, and finally he limited it to fine rice only. And now the Congress was trying to abolish Rythu Bandhu permanently, he alleged.

He reminded that BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had earlier warned that Rythu Bandhu would be stopped if the Congress party came to power and as expected, the Revanth Reddy government was taking steps in that direction.

“Have the farmers, tenant farmers, and labourers who are waiting for the farmer’s assurance to come have been deceived? Is Revanth Reddy organizing a Rythu festival because he has successfully deceived the farmers? Should he celebrate his victory for betraying the farmers after coming to power by promising to do so in the manifesto? The BRS party strongly condemns the conspiracy to stop the Rythu Bandhu scheme brought by KCR to change the lives of farmers,” he posted on X.

Resurgence of terrorism in Syria ‘American-Zionist plot’ after failure in Lebanon: Iran

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called the resurgence of Takfiri terrorism in northern Syria the outcome of an American-Israeli project, noting that the development followed the Israeli regime’s defeats against resistance in Lebanon and the Palestinian territories.

The top diplomat made the remarks during a telephone conversation with his Syria counterpart Bassam al-Sabbagh on Friday.

Araghchi described the unwelcome development as “an American-Zionist design” that had ensued the Israeli regime’s defeats at the hands of resistance movements in Lebanon and throughout the Palestinian territories.

The comments echoed those made by the official in a Thursday phone call with his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib, during which the former had called the phenomenon a US-Israeli scenario aimed at destabilizing West Asia after failures of the Zionist regime in confronting Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement.

Araghchi also underlined that the menace of terrorism had been countered effectively by the Arab country.

‘Iran keeps up support for Syria in face of terrorism’

Araghchi underlined the Islamic Republic’s continued support for the Syrian government, nation, and army towards fighting terrorism and protecting regional security and stability.

The comments reflected Tehran’s acting as the first country to rush to the Arab nation’s support in 2014, when foreign-backed terrorism and militancy swept large swathes of the country.

Damascus, however, managed to gradually reverse the tide with the help of its allies, regaining the lost territory and vanquishing Daesh, the most brutal of the terrorist outfits, in 2017.

Sabbagh, meanwhile, reported on the situation on the ground in northern Syria following the terrorist attacks.

He insisted that the Syrian state and people were standing up to terrorist aggression with all their might, and would keep preventing terrorists and their supporters from realizing their sinister ambitions.

Members of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) Takfiri terrorist group were reported to have overrun many government-controlled areas and killed dozens of Syrian soldiers in the Arab country’s north.

Later, though, Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network said the Syrian army had thwarted large-scale terrorist operations in the Aleppo Province through a preemptive strike.

Four major terrorist operations, which were set to begin from the town of Anadan, 12 kilometers (7 miles) northwest of Aleppo, were foiled before they could begin, the network said.

According to the report, the army launched intensified missile attacks on terrorist positions that stretch from villages in western Aleppo to Mount Zawiya south of the city of Idlib in an adjacent province.

The Syrian army was also said to have halted the advance of terrorists led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in southeastern Idlib and launched a counterattack to regain ground.

Palestine calls for meeting of Arab League over Israeli massacres

Palestine has called for an emergency meeting of the Arab League over Israeli massacres in Beit Lahia, in the northern Gaza Strip.

In a statement, the Palestinian Presidency on Friday called for a meeting of Arab foreign ministers after the Israeli army killed nearly 100 Palestinians in northern Gaza in just 24 hours.

The statement, cited by the official Wafa news agency, warned against what it called starvation warfare against Palestinians in Northern Gaza.

The statement called on the Arab League “to hold an emergency meeting at the level of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs given the ongoing Israeli genocidal aggression, forced displacement, and starvation of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.”

It cited Israel’s policy of separating the north from the rest of the Strip as it deploys “starvation as a method of warfare against Palestinians to displace them from their lands and houses.”

It also called on the international community to intervene urgently and end Israeli onslaught on Gaza.

Palestinians are facing diminishing conditions for survival in northern Gaza under siege by Israeli forces.

The regime has prevented virtually any aid from delivering to the area.

The chief of the World Health Organization says 90 percent of people in the coastal enclave are now living in tents, leaving them “vulnerable to respiratory and other diseases, food insecurity and malnutrition as winter approaches.”

“The ultimate solution to this suffering is not aid but peace,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has raised alarms about the worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, warning that Israel’s severe limitations on essential goods are intensifying the suffering of nearly two million displaced Palestinians amid cold weather.

The Geneva-based organization stated on Wednesday, criticizing Israel for restricting the flow of essential goods such as clothing, blankets, and shoes, which the NGO said is aimed at imposing dire living conditions on the Palestinian population that will ultimately lead to their destruction as part of a broader genocidal campaign in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli genocide has killed over 44,360 civilians since October 2023. The onslaught has injured over 105,000 others.

His awkward action, skill set make Bumrah a complete package: Steve Smith

His awkward action, skill set make Bumrah a complete package: Steve Smith

Melbourne: Star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah‘s unorthodox bowling action and exceptional skill-set makes him a “complete package,” according to Australia’s premier batter Steve Smith.

Leading India in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, Bumrah was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ after claiming eight wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings, to power the visitors to a 295-run victory in the opening Test.

“From the start of his run-up, it’s just all awkward,” Smith told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“The way he runs in is different to pretty much anyone else, then the last bit of his action is different. I’ve faced him a reasonable amount now, and each time you face him it takes a few balls just to get the rhythm of it in a way.”

Smith was among Bumrah’s victims during a devastating opening spell in the first innings, where the pacer tore through the Australian top-order.

Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram explained how Bumrah’s release point is at least a foot closer to the batters than any other bowler making it that much difficult to pick the length.

“He releases the ball closer to you than any other bowler, just the way he does it. So maybe it rushes you a bit more than you think, and it’s just an awkward action,” said the 35-year-old Smith, who was trapped by Bumrah for a duck.

“Put that together with his skill set—he swings it both ways, he can nip it off the seam, he can reverse it, got a good slower ball, a good bouncer—he’s pretty much the complete package as a bowler.”

Bumrah is an instinct-driven bowler, a Terminator: Fleming

Former Australian seamer Damien Fleming also heaped praise on India’s vice-captain, likening him to a “Terminator” and calling him a “very instinct-driven bowler.” “He’s just the Terminator, isn’t he?” Fleming said. “He knows his strengths and he’s always sniffing to find that weakness. I think he does that instinctively, and it’s not a long run-up, but I can see he’s reviewed that ball, and then he’s planning the next one.” Fleming cited Bumrah’s iconic slower ball to Shaun Marsh during the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy as a prime example of his tactical brilliance.

“There’s that famous dismissal of Shaun Marsh [at the MCG in 2018] in the over before lunch. I was commentating at the time, and I could almost pick what was going to happen, just driving him back, so his weight’s on the back foot, and then he bowls that superb slower ball and knocks him over.

“It was either going to be that slower ball or a fast yorker. So I think he is so astute, but he also now has all the skills—outswingers, inswingers, off-cutters, slower balls, excellent yorker, bouncer.

“So when you’ve got more skills, you’ve got more options. Like the Terminator, he’s always stalking the batsmen. And the batsmen know that, but they’re still unsure what’s coming. Not only does he have a wide skill set, but he executes it better than anyone in world cricket.” India will next face Australia in the Pink-ball Test in Adelaide starting December 6.

New York Fruit Seller's Reaction After Banana Auctioned For $6.2 Million

A 74-year-old fruit vendor is receiving unexpected support after his humble banana was sold for an extraordinary $6.2 million at an auction at Sotheby’s. Shah Alam sold the banana for just 35 cents (Rs 29) not realising it would go on to become the centrepiece of Maurizio Cattelan’s artwork, ‘Comedian’. The surreal sale of the fruit taped to a gallery wall explores the absurdities of the art world.

Mr Alam, a Bangladeshi immigrant who has lived in the US since 2007, works at a modest fruit stand on the Upper East Side for $12 an hour, selling fresh produce to locals. He had no idea the banana he sold to a visitor at the Sotheby’s auction house would become a world-famous item fetching millions.

Upon hearing about the sale, he broke down in tears. “I am a poor man,” he told a New York Times reporter. “I have never had this kind of money; I have never seen this kind of money.”

Living in a shared basement apartment in the Bronx, Mr Alam works 12-hour shifts, four days a week, regardless of the weather. Despite the unexpected windfall for the banana, he felt like the joke had been at his expense. “Those who bought it, what kind of people are they?” he asked. “Do they not know what a banana is?”

Last week’s auction saw the banana fetch $5.2 million, with extra fees bringing the total to $6.2 million. The buyer, Chinese cryptocurrency mogul Justin Sun, said he admired Mr Alam’s role in the work.

Mr Sun, whose net worth is estimated to be over $1.4 billion, has also announced that he plans to buy 1 lakh bananas from Mr Alam’s stand as a gesture of gratitude. “To thank Mr Shah Alam, I’ve decided to buy 100,000 bananas from his stand in New York’s Upper East Side,” Mr Sun wrote on X. “These bananas will be distributed free worldwide through his stand.”

Mr Sun’s support was not the only sign of solidarity. An anonymous New Yorker launched a GoFundMe campaign to help Mr Alam.

“Do we really want to live in a city where we can shrug off a street vendor who’s moved to tears…while celebrating some smartass for figuring out how to make $6 million from that joke?” the campaign’s organiser, known only as “JS,” wrote. The fundraiser quickly raised over $15,296 (Rs 12.93 lakh), with JS promising to directly deliver the money to Mr Alam.

“I will walk to the fruit stand myself next week (after Thanksgiving) and take a video of me handing him the money myself,” JS wrote. “If I don’t find him, GoFundMe will return your money.”

Resistance ready to prevent Israel from weakening Lebanon

Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem addressed on Friday the nation two days after the ceasefire took into effect and ended a two-month Zionist war on Lebanon, stressing that they are witnessing a major victory.

Sheikh Qassem stressed that Hezbollah achieved a victory that is greater than that reached in 2006 despite all the sacrifices made and the Western support to the Israeli enemy, adding that we emerged triumphant because we prevented the enemy from eradicating the Resistance.

When we launched the support front, we reiterated that we do not seek war but are ready for it if imposed by the Israeli enemy, Sheikh Qassem said.

Sheikh Qassem indicated that Hezbollah managed to remain steadfast on the frontlines and began striking the enemy’s internal front, placing “Israel” in a significant defensive position, noting that, during this war, the number of displaced in occupied Palestine has grown from 70,000 to hundreds of thousands.

“The Resistance has endured and will continue; this victory belongs to everyone who contributed to it, whether through bullets, martyrdom, wounds, prayers, words, or support. This victory is for every honorable and free individual who supported the Resistance and condemned the Israeli aggression.”

Sheikh Qassem stressed that the coordination between the Resistance and the Lebanese Army will be of the highest level to ensure the implementation of this agreement, adding that no one should bet on any disagreement between us and the army; this agreement falls under the framework of Lebanese sovereignty, Al-Manar reported.

“We will work with our people to rebuild and restore, focusing in this phase on dignified shelter. We will also cooperate with the state, all organizations, and countries willing to assist Lebanon in making it even more beautiful than before.”

Our national efforts will involve collaboration and dialogue with political forces that believe the homeland belongs to everyone, according to Sheikh Qassem who added, “We will prioritize completing constitutional institutions, particularly ensuring the timely election of a president.”

Liberating Palestine most important battle facing humanity

Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro said Friday that the “liberation” of Palestine is the “most important” battle facing humanity, and he assured that the South American country will do “everything possible” to ensure that solidarity is expressed in “concrete terms.”

“We are deeply saddened by the crimes committed daily against the children, women and men of Palestine, the sacred land of all, which today suffers a living genocide,” the head of state said on Telegram.

In a message shared on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Maduro reaffirmed the “firm and historic” position of the Chavista Executive against the extermination policy carried out by the Zionist regime.

“I am not exaggerating when I say that defending Palestine and its right to life, independence and existence is defending the right to existence of Venezuela, Latin America and the Caribbean. It is a crucial battle between fascism, colonialism in its new forms, Zionism, and the right to a new society, to decorum and cultural diversity,” said Iran’s ally in Latin America.
